Kovar sheets and foil are crafted from a **nickel–cobalt–iron alloy**, typically comprising about 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, and the remainder iron. On the mechanical side, Kovar boasts moderate tensile strength, good ductility, and excellent formability. Kovar is an alloy mainly composed of iron (29-17%), nickel (29-17%), cobalt (16-21%), and small amounts of manganese, silicon and carbon. It has excellent thermal expansion properties, which binds to glass, making it ideal for coating glass on metal. Technical properties include high strength, good ductility and thermal and shock resistance. Kovar foil is highly corrosion resistant and maintains its shape and strength at high temperatures.
